Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)

The Patriot Battalion ROTC Program is a commissioning path for future officers in the US Army. Before registering for courses, students are required to contact patriot5@providence.edu for more information. CCRI students may participate subject to space availability, Program Director approval, and must meet defined eligibility requirements to enroll in the ROTC Program. Additionally, physical training (PT) three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:30-7:30am) and some weekend trainings are required. Military Science courses are maintained, offered, and taught at Providence College. 

ROTC 1010  - Introduction to Leadership and Military Skills  
(3 Credits)  
Introduces Cadets to the personal challenges and competencies that are critical for effective leadership. Cadets learn how the personal development of life skills such as critical thinking, goal setting, time management, stress management, and comprehensive fitness relate to leadership, officership, and the Army profession. The focus is on developing basic knowledge and comprehension of Army leadership dimensions. ROTC courses are conducted at Providence College. Fall – ROTC 1010 – Wednesdays – 2:30pm-6:00pm

ROTC 1020  - Introduction to Tactical Leadership with Lab  
(3 Credits)  
Overviews basic leadership fundamentals such as setting direction, problem-solving, listening, presenting briefs, providing feedback, and using effective writing skills. Cadets explore dimensions of leadership attributes and core leader competencies in the context of practical, hands-on, and interactive exercises. Cadet role models and the building of stronger relationships among the Cadets are critical aspects of the ROTC program. ROTC courses are conducted at Providence College. Spring – ROTC 1020 – Wednesdays – 2:30pm-6:00pm

ROTC 2050  - Leadership and Decision Making w/Lab  
(3 Credits)  
Explores the dimensions of creative and innovative tactical leadership strategies and styles by examining team dynamics and two historical leadership theories that form the basis of the Army leadership framework (trait and behavior theories). Cadets practice aspects of personal motivation and team building in the context of planning, executing, and assessing team exercises and participating in leadership labs. ROTC courses are conducted at Providence College. Fall – ROTC 2050 – Wednesdays – 2:30pm – 6:00pm

ROTC 2070  - Sophomore Military Science and Lab  
(3 Credits)  
The course highlights dimensions of operation orders, terrain analysis, and patrolling. Further study of the theoretical basis of the Army Leadership Requirements Model explores the dynamics of adaptive leadership in the context of military operations. Cadets develop greater self-awareness as they assess their own leadership styles and practice communication and team building skills. ROTC courses are conducted at Providence College. Spring – ROTC 2070 – Wednesdays – 2:30pm-6:00pm
