This program may be completed at the Knight (Warwick) Campus or Liston (Providence) Campus. Completing the program at either campus requires taking one or more courses online.
Students taking this course identify, develop, discuss, and practice necessary skills for effective case management within the human service social services community. The skills learned promote effective transition from the classroom into the social service setting with the requisite foundational knowledge in sound case management theory and skills necessary to engage in services from completion of an inquiry form at intake to referral and termination. Students engage in learning activities and examine case study, practice documentation, communication, critical thinking, and other practical skills that are essential to effective service delivery with confidence.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, a student will be able to:
- Identify effective communication, useful clarification, and attitude related to effective case management.
- Identify monitoring services and following the client to include treatment plans, developing goals, and termination.
- Describe developing a person-centered treatment plan.
- Discuss ethical and other professional responsibilities for human service workers related case management.
- Understand the history and foundations for best practices in case management.
- Understand best practices for meeting clients and how to assess their strengths and needs.
- Apply professional interpersonal skills including attitudes, active listening, boundaries, and self-care.
- Cultivate trusting relationships with clients, colleagues, and community partners for effective case management practices.
